Strongboy STRONGBEAM Instructions for use.

NEW  STRONGBOY STRONGBEAM NEEDLE PROP MASONRY SUPPORT USAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Prior to using any Strongboy masonry support it is essential that you identify that this is the correct method to carry out the intended works.

You must correctly identify all loading (which may include furniture in an upstairs room) roof tiles, loft mounted water tanks and the like.

It is intended that only one single opening in any one length of wall be created at any given time.

The integrity of the mortar and structure of the wall intended to be altered or repaired must be given due consideration prior to any work being carried out.

Please note that the StrongBeam support is not intended to be used to provide temporary support to unstable structures.

Please note Strongboy Ltd can provide advice on the product but does not offer a temporary works design service. Neither can we give specific project related advice.  If you need advice on loading or a temporary works design you should consult a structural engineer.  Also, Please consult a fully qualified structural engineer if in any doubt of any of the above.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Strongbeam Needle prop is approx. 24KG and it is highly recommended that it should always be handled and installed by two capable persons as it is awkward to handle at height.  Personal protective equipment, including but not limited to, protective safety boots, hard hat and strong gloves should be worn while handling the Strongbeam.  DO NOT AT ANY TIME INSERT FINGERS BETWEEN THE TOP PLATE AND U – HEAD PLATE BELOW.

Instructions for use:

Mark the wall in the correct position where the Strongbeam is to be inserted

Ensure the props are placed on a firm base capable of supporting the load being supported by the Strongbeams.  Where necessary use a suitable board below the props to spread the load.

Scrape or grind out the mortar, or a remove a brick prior to insertion of the Strongbeam in the identified position.  Always ensure the underside of the brick to be supported is clean and will sit flat on the support plate of the Strongbeam.

Insert the Strongbeam approximately halfway into the opening  where the intended usage is.

While one person holds the Strongbeam in place the other should adjust one of the adjustable steel builders prop with the retaining pin to the approximate height of usage.

Tilt the Prop slightly and slide the top plate of the prop into the U-shaped plate on the underside of the Strongbeam until engaged inside of the retaining bar of the Strongbeam and bring to a vertical position.

Ensure the prop plate is fully engaged behind the retaining bar with the support tube of the prop against the circular end of the U – shaped plate of the Strongbeam then adjust the height of theprop using the scew thread to a position  where the Strongbeam is horizontal. Hand tight is generally sufficient. Repeat this process on the other side of the wall to be supported.

Ensure the props remains completely vertical and in plumb and the Strongbeam is horizontal

Maximum load bearing capacity of unit 1050 Kgs per unit.

Maximum safe working height 3 metres from firm base.

On sound brick or blockwork maximum distance between Strongbeam’s is 3ft or 900mm unless otherwise advised by a fully qualified structural engineer.

Always have the loadings checked and use the correct number of Strongbeams for the job.  If in doubt, please take advice from a certified structural engineer.

If the width of the intended opening is greater than 4m we would recommend that the props be horizontally laced and diagonal braced together using scaffolding poles and proprietary couplings.

On unsound structures or weak/old mortar it recommended that this distance be reduced. If in any doubt about the integrity of the structure please consult a fully qualified structural engineer or temporary works structural specialist.
